    SEO for small businesses

Technical and on-page SEO for UK small businesses. Structured data, Core Web Vitals, and content built to rank — measured, not promised.

SEO for small businesses is the work of making a site legible to search engines and genuinely useful to the people who arrive from them. For a small company it breaks into three parts: technical health, so pages can be crawled, indexed and rendered quickly; structured data, so a search engine understands what the business is and what it sells; and content that answers the questions customers actually type. It is not keyword stuffing and it is not link buying. Point28 treats it as engineering with a measurable baseline — Core Web Vitals, indexation coverage and structured data validity are recorded before and after, so you can see what changed. It is also not an open-ended retainer: every engagement names the pages it targets and the metrics it intends to move, and reports against them on a fixed date. Where the honest answer is that search is not where your customers are, we will say so before taking the work. Starting prices are published in full.

What does SEO actually involve for a small business?

Three things, in order. Fix the technical foundation — speed, mobile rendering, crawlability, canonical URLs, sitemaps. Add structured data so search engines can identify the business, its services and its prices. Then build pages that answer real questions, one page per genuine intent, rather than thin variations on the same topic.

How do you measure whether it worked?

Against a dated baseline captured before any change: Core Web Vitals from field data where available, indexed page count, structured data validity, and organic impressions and clicks from Search Console. Every number published carries the date it was measured.

    Do I need local SEO?

Only if you serve a place. If customers come to you or you travel to them, a verified Google Business Profile and consistent name, address and phone details across the web matter more than almost anything else. If you sell nationally online, local signals are largely irrelevant and location pages become dead weight.

    Can I do SEO myself?

Much of it, yes — writing genuinely useful pages about what you do is the hardest part and you know your business best. The technical layer is where a specialist saves you time. Point28 will happily do the foundation and hand you the content work with a written brief.

    Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take to work?

Technical fixes — speed, indexability, structured data — register within days to weeks. Ranking movement on competitive commercial terms realistically takes three to six months. Anyone promising page one in 30 days is selling something else.

    Do you guarantee first-page rankings?

No, and neither can anyone else — nobody controls Google's index. What is guaranteed is the technical work: the measurements are published, dated, and reproducible by you.

Is SEO worth it for a very small business?

It depends entirely on whether people search for what you sell. For a local trade or service business the answer is usually yes. For a business that sells through referral alone, the money is often better spent elsewhere — and we will say so.

What is the difference between SEO and GEO?

SEO optimises for a ranked list of links. GEO optimises for being quoted inside an AI-generated answer. They share foundations but reward different content structures. See our GEO page.
